Home-Start is the UK's leading family support charity

Home-Start Trafford and Salford supports families going through difficult times by providing volunteers who visit them regularly in their own homes.
We offer a unique service: volunteers are recruited, trained and carefully matched with families  (living in Trafford or Salford who have at least one child under the age of five) to offer support, friendship and practical help in the families' own homes. Our volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, offer friendly, informal, non-judgemental and confidential support for as long as is appropriate.

Parents supporting other parents – it’s a simple idea that really works!

At the heart of our charity is the belief that parents have the key role in creating a secure and happy environment for their children. It's just that sometimes they need a bit of help. That's where Home-Start comes in. Families are visited regularly in their own homes by volunteers who have all had experience of parenting and know how hard it can sometimes be.

Home-Start Trafford and Salford is a voluntary organisation operating as a Charitable Company and is strategically managed by a Board of Trustees which is made up of  members of the local community.

We are supported by Home-Start UK and work in partnership to complement and enhance existing family services in the Borough of Trafford and in the City of Salford. We are also part of a Greater Manchester project, Motiv8, that enables us to support some families in Wigan and Leigh, with the hope for future expansion to run a full service there.

In April 2017, we started an innovative new pilot project in collaboration with the University of Salford to train local volunteers to become befrienders and provide pregnancy and postnatal support to Salford mums to be.

Home-Start UK was established over 35 years ago and is the UK's leading family support organisation, working with over 21,000 families and 48,000 children a year. The sister organisation, Home-Start International, was founded in 1998 to provide similar informal, friendly, family support across the world.
